Individuality
In a world of mass production, brand name proliferation and increasing uniformity Champa Ceramics stands apart. As human hands, not machines, form, shape and apply the finishing details on our pottery, metal containers, bamboo and carved stone. Subtle variations will be noticed. This does not make our pottery imperfect, but unique, even before the pieces enter the kiln for firing. Once in the kiln the pots go through both a chemical and physical transformation as the clay vitrifies or solidifies to form the non-porous surface. Factors including temperature, humidity, time and ash flow all affect the final outcome. Opening the doors after the seven day firing process always produces surprises. Like a snowflake or a human face no two pieces will be exactly alike.

Honesty
These pots are a result of hard work and superior craftsmanship. As the entire process from start to finish takes up to thirty days (if rains do not halt the drying time), great care and attention becomes embedded in each pot. We use local clays and make the pots extra thick for strength. Using eucalyptus wood (a renewable resource) as fuel for firing the kilns imparts a finish otherwise unobtainable. We do not cut corners but instead produce only the finest quality stoneware.

Integrity
These pots are made to last. You will find them to have the thickest walls of any on the market. At high temperatures the molecules of clay pack tightly together, fusing the pot's wall. Strike them on the inside with a stone and you will hear the ringing of a bell. That is a testament to the high-firing process used to create our stoneware. Try this on a low-fired piece of pottery and all you will hear is a dull thud.

Functionality
Throughout Southeast Asia large vessels are employed for the everyday purposes of storing water, fish sauce, grains, etc. In the countryside, people capture and store rain water in these pots for drinking, cooking and bathing. The non-porous and thick wall construction is ideal for these purposes. These warm and inviting pieces can be used in Western settings for every conceivable planting, water garden or fountain. Some simply put them in their homes as decorative pieces. Add bamboo, use a pump to create a fountain, grow water lilies. The possibilities are endless.
